With an increasing focus on energy efficiency, thermally broken window and door framing is a beneficial addition to both commercial and residential builds. Thermally broken frames are created by inserting a less conductive material between the internal and external elements of an aluminium frame to reduce the transfer of heat and cold.
These types of frames enhance a building’s energy performance by creating an air-tight interior, less influenced by fluctuations in external weather conditions. With a more stable interior, less mechanical heating and cooling is needed, leading to reduced energy bills and a more comfortable internal environment.
Taylor’s Aluminium manufacture Alspec’s ThermAFrame range which includes a thermal break made from a fibreglass-reinforced polyamide. The ThermAFrame system is available in a variety of frame depths and in flush glazed or centre pocket glazed systems for doors, windows and framing.
Specifying thermally broken windows and doors can be designed and installed in most situations and will significantly add to the energy efficiency credentials of any building.
